DRAFT I
ACAOM Accreditation Standards for Masters-Level Programs in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine We are pleased to share the first draft of newly proposed reconceptualized standards for accrediting master’s degree and professional master’s level certificate and diploma programs in acupuncture and in Oriental medicine. ACAOM established a Masters Standards Task Force to develop a comprehensive set of accreditation standards that focus on institutional, program and student learning outcomes expected of master’s degree and professional master’s level programs of the highest quality. The Task Force is composed of representatives of the national AOM organizations, including the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine ("AAAOM"), the Federation of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Regulatory Agencies ("FAOMRA"), the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine ("CCAOM"), the National Federation of Chinese TCM Organizations ("NFCTCMO"), and the World Federation of TCM Societies ("WFTCMS"). The Task Force was Chaired by past ACAOM Commissioner, Fred Jennes, M.Ed., Dipl. Ac. & C.H., L.Ac. for whom we owe a debt of gratitude. The product of this collaborative work is now available for your review. Please take this opportunity to read the draft carefully and submit your comments in the accompanying textboxes. We would also welcome any recommendations for wording that you think would add clarity or more accurately convey the intent of the standards. After ACAOM and its Masters Standards Task Force have reviewed your feedback from the first draft, we will be making appropriate revisions. A second draft will be available for your comments and input at a later date. Our goal is to conclude this work by 2010. Thank you for your participation in the accreditation process.
